The Schola Sancti Gregorii is Mater Dei’s primary Sunday Mass mixed choir. It is an auditioned volunteer group with professional section leaders. Membership is capped to accommodate space limitations in the choir loft and ensure efficient learning of new repertoire.
Auditions for the first semester of the 2019/20 choir season were held in August. The next opportunity to audition will be in January, 2020. Please email music@materdeipa.com if you are interested in joining the Schola Sancti Gregorii.
Schola Sancti Gregorii
- Fully auditioned chamber choir with professional section leaders
- Sings all Sunday 10am Sung Masses from September – June
- Group will range from 12-20 singers, but capped at 20 max
- Repertoire includes Gregorian chant, traditional hymnody, and polyphonic works of the Medieval, Renaissance, Classical, and modern periods
- A few of the composers whose music we sing: Palestrina, Victoria, des Prez, Durufle, Dufay, Vierne, Tallis, Byrd, and more!
- The group is musically intensive, constantly learning new repertoire and striving for always-improving musical excellence
- Weekly Thursday evening rehearsals (6:30pm for men, 7pm for mixed choir) are mandatory and singers are expected to commit to attendance (with usual exceptions for illness or travel, etc.)
- Sunday morning warmup (8:30am for men, 9am for mixed choir) is also mandatory and punctuality is expected
- In sum, this group is for capable singers who desire an immersive sacred music experience, who are willing and able to commit to the rehearsals, warmups, and Masses throughout choir season, and who enjoy pushing and growing their own vocal and musical abilities
