The Schola Angelorum is Mater Dei’s open-membership volunteer choir which sings for special Masses throughout the year, including any weekday Sung Masses for feast days, various special functions such as Confirmations, other devotions such as Low Masses for our monthly St. Jude Devotion, and joins the Schola Sancti Gregorii for certain special occasions. The membership commitments are less rigorous than the Schola Sancti Gregorii, so the Schola Angelorum is a perfect fit for those wishing to offer their singing talents in our Choir on a more flexible basis.
New singers are always warmly welcomed into the Schola Angelorum! You do not need to know how to read music nor have any prior experience. You should, however, be able to match pitch, carry a tune, and desire to share your voice with the Lord! Please email music@materdeipa.com if you are interested in joining.
Schola Angelorum
- Non-auditioned volunteer choir
- Sings all special Masses, such as weekday Sung Masses (and Low Masses with hymns) for Feast Days, devotions, special occasions (e.g. Confirmations), requiem Masses, etc.
- Repertoire is focused on the ancient chants and traditional hymns of the Catholic Church, though occasional polyphony may also be part of this group
- There is no cap on membership, and any capable singers are welcome to participate as they are able
- Participation in the Schola Angelorum does not require commitment to all Masses, though we’d love to see as much consistency as possible
- Rehearsals and warmups will be scheduled separately for each Mass the Schola Angelorum sings, and singers will be required to attend rehearsals for any Masses they plan to sing
- In sum, this group is a great opportunity to offer your musical talents to God and His Church in choir, but with a less intense commitment and a more relaxed musical pace than the Schola Sancti Gregorii
If you’re interested in joining the Schola Angelorum, please email our Music Director at music@materdeipa.com, or speak with him after Sunday Mass.
