Third Sunday after Easter

May 8, 2022

Solemn reception of Mothers’ Confraternity:

Congratulations to the 60 women of the parish who were solemnly received into the Confraternity of Christian Mothers on April 22 by Fr. Joseph Tuscan, OFM Cap., the national director of the Confraternity, which is based is Pittsburgh. The mission of the Confraternity, the St. Lawrence chapter of which was also just established, is to help mothers (and to guide would-be mothers) to lead their children to heaven. Fr. Smith was appointed by Bp. Gainer as the director of the Confraternity at St. Lawrence, and Fr. Smith subsequently appointed three officers of the Confraternity, recently naming Barbara Serpiello as treasurer. The other officers are: Stephanie Fonticoba, president; Becky Fair, vice president; and Lindsey Hepburn, secretary. For information about the Confraternity, email mothers@stlawrence.cc.  Another solemn reception will be planned for additional new members.

Altar cloth ministry:

If you would like to learn how to clean, maintain, and prepare the sacred fabrics used on and at the altar for the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, please email altarcloths@stlawrence.cc. We would like to form a small group of people who would slowly learn the techniques and care that is required for the linen cloths placed on the altar, the most sacred part of a church, under which rest relics of the martyrs, and upon which is performed the Sacrifice of Calvary in an unbloody manner. These cloths include the three layers of cloths on the altar, on the credence table, the cloths used for the ceremonial hand washing in the sacristy as part of the vesting prayers, as well as the long, white garment (the alb) worn by the priest while celebrating Mass, and the short white garment worn by the priest while reciting the Divine Office (the surplice). Due to the great dignity of the act in which these fabrics participate, they must always be clean and beautiful. If interested, you are invited to come to an information session, which should occur sometime this summer. From there, you may then evaluate if you would like to be part of the regular rotation. Email: altarcloths@stlawrence.cc

May Crowning:

Today, Sunday, May 8, we will have a crowning of Our Blessed Mother prior to the 11am Masses. All children who wish to join the procession should line up on the sidewalk on the side of the building by 10:45am. We will then process into the church for the crowning.

Mother’s Day Carnations:

Today, May 8, the Girls Sodality will have carnations available after the 9AM and 11AM Masses. Donations are greatly appreciated. All proceeds will be given to Pennsylvanians for Human Life, a local pro-life group.
