Lenten Recollection Breakfast - Free - Please note that the Saturday, March 11, morning breakfast is free.  It was originally listed at $15, but in order to enable all to attend, children included, breakfast will be free for all.  A collection will be taken at the Offertory of the Mass to help defray the costs of the recollection.

Coffee Social Volunteers — Thank You! - Thank you to the many people who have volunteered to help clean the Social Hall after Sunday morning coffee and donuts.  We had a great response.

Stations of the Cross - During Lent the Friday evening Holy Hour will begin at 5pm followed by Stations of the Cross at 6pm and Mass at 6:30pm.

Mater Dei Lenten Recollection: March 10 - 12 - Fr. Saguto FSSP, North American District Superior, will give a weekend spiritual recollection at St. Lawrence March 10 - 12.  All parishioners are strongly encouraged to clear their calendars for the weekend.  This will be a excellent preparation for a holy and fruitful Lent.

*Guest Choir - The Saturday 9:00am Mass will be a Polyphonic Mass sung by a visiting choir from our FSSP apostolate in Scranton.  We are grateful to them for accepting the invitation to sing this Mass.

Two Kinds of Humiliation

There are two kinds of humiliations: those which we seek of our own free-will, and those which proceed from the natural and temporal vicissitudes of this life.

Against the first we must be on our guard, notwithstanding the ardor with which we embrace them, for the ever-lurking vanity of our self-love is so subtle that it seeks even to enhance its own vain-glory while it appears to seek the contempt of man.

But if we accept the other humiliations which come to us, irrespective of our will, mortifying our feelings, thoughts and passions with prompt resignation, to the will of God, it is a sign of a true and sincere humility; because such humiliations tend to mortify our self-love and to perfect the submission which we owe to God.

Voluntary and self-sought humiliations may cause the soul to become hypocritical.  But in voluntary humiliations sent to us by the Divine Will, and borne by us with patience, sanctify the soul; and for this reason the Holy Ghost has given us this most important mandate: In thy humiliation keep patience.  For gold and silver are tried in the fire, but acceptable men in the furnace of humiliation. (Ecclus 2:4-5)
