About Holy Name Society
The Church created the Holy Name Society centuries ago to promote fulfillment of the Second Commandment – Thou shalt not take the Name of the Lord thy God in vain – and to foster love and respect for the Most Holy Name of Jesus.
Mater Dei’s Holy Name Society carries out its mission in a variety of ways. First and foremost, it enhances the spiritual welfare of its members by group prayer, talks by its Chaplains, and an annual Day of Recollection. Other activities include sponsorship of the Mater Dei family picnic, a work/cleanup day at the Elysburg Monastery, and occasional evening social gatherings at members’ homes. Through such means, members have the opportunity to interact and enjoy the company of like-minded traditional Catholic men and thereby reinforce their faith.
Membership is open to all Catholic men ages 18 and older. Meetings, which nonmember men are invited to attend as guests, are held monthly, usually on the first Saturday after 9 A.M. Mass. Every meeting begins with a renewal of the vow to honor the Sacred Name of Jesus.
