Fourth Sunday after Epiphany

January 29, 2017

Coffee and Donuts - There will be coffee and donuts after the 10AM Mass today.  Please join us.

Blessing of Sacramentals: New Procedure - Those with objects which they would like blessed should drop them off in the sacristy.  Be sure that your name is attached to your item and clearly visible.  Any items dropped off will be blessed within a week, and a note will be attached to verify this.  They may then be picked up.

Parish Registration Forms - If you are not a registered member of Mater Dei and would like to become one, registration forms are located in the church entrance, or on our website.  Being registered makes one a more full recipient of the graces of the Masses (such as the “Pro Populo” Mass which is offered specifically for the community members each Sunday) and prayers offered by the priests every day.

Guadalajara Work Mission - March 25  -  April 2 - A week of prayer and work at Casa Cristo Rey of the FSSP.  Each day will include Mass, the Rosary, a spiritual conference, and manual labor to help prepare the future house of formation for the FSSP in Latin America.  In addition, it will be a great time of camaraderie among Catholic men in a traditional Catholic culture.  Who: Men from 21 years old and up with some tradesmen or handyman talents, who are registered parishioners of an FSSP apostolate.  Must have a valid passport.  Closing date for applications is March 1, 2017.  Applications judged on a first come, first served basis.  For more details email missiontradition@fssp.com or visit missiontradition.us

St. Tarcisius Meeting - Our next St. Tarcisius Meeting is this Saturday, February 4, at 5:00pm.  The group is for children ages 5 – 12 and meets monthly in order to train the children to meditate.  Each meeting includes a short, priest led meditation, the rosary, and a potluck dinner.  For more information and to be added to our contact list please contact us at SaintTarcisiusGroup@MaterDeiPA.com

1st Friday Promise - This week are both the 1st Friday and 1st Saturday of the month.   Our Lord told St. Margaret Mary:

I promise you, in the excessive mercy of My Heart, that My all-powerful love will grant to all those  who communicate on the First Friday of nine consecutive months, the grace of final penitence;  they shall not die in my disgrace, nor without receiving their Sacraments, My Divine Heart shall be their safe refuge in this last moment.

Candlemas, Thursday, February 2nd - Mass Schedule for Feast of the Purification of the Blessed Virgin Mary:

  • 7:10am – Low Mass
  • 7:00pm – Low Mass with Blessing of Candles and Procession

The annual blessing of candles and procession will take place before the evening Mass only.  We will bless all of the candles which will be used throughout the entire liturgical year.  You are encouraged to bring your own candles that you will use for personal devotions to be blessed as well.  Either drop them off on Sunday, January 29, or  bring them Thursday evening prior to the Mass (be sure to arrive no later than 15 minutes prior to Mass).  Be sure to label candles with your name.

St. Blaise Throat Blessing - On Friday, February 3rd, after the morning and evening masses the blessing of throats will be available.  Also, co-op students may receive the blessing after the morning classes.

Epiphany Water - The Epiphany Water blessed on the vigil of the Epiphany is currently available in the container in front of the St. Joseph’s altar, and also in the usual Holy Water canister beside the Baptistry entrance gate.

Adult Convert / Confirmation Class - Our next class will be on Tuesday, January 31 at 7pm.  Access via the alley door on Buttonwood St.

Silence of Mary Food Donations - Silence of Mary has come to depend on the food that we collect every week in the basket in the back of church.  During this time of the year following Christmas their supplies tend to run low, and our donations go a long way to help Silence of Mary take care of the needs of the poor in the Harrisburg area.  They are always grateful for whatever we bring them each week.

Sunday Parking Reminder - We have permission to park behind the buildings located across the street from the church during evenings and weekends.  The entrance to these parking spaces is by way of Academy Alley, which is directly behind these houses.  It is the first alley immediately after State Street.  These parking spaces can only be reached by turning left off Front Street.  Please report any incident that might cause the owners concern, as we do not want to jeopardize the parking hospitality given to us from these generous property owners.  The parking lot along the side of St. Lawrence is not to be used.

Banns of Marriage - Jonathan Gearhart and Elizabeth Mansell plan to be married on May 13, 2017.
