First Sunday of Lent

Coffee & Donuts - Join us for coffee and donuts in the Social Hall following the 10am Mass this morning. 

Chair of St. Peter - Sung Mass - Thursday - There will be a 7pm Sung Mass for the feast of the Chair of St. Peter this Thursday, February 22nd at 7:00 P.M.  This is a 1st Class Feast for us as a Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter community. 

Stations of the Cross - Stations of the Cross will be every Friday of Lent.

  • 5:00pm - Simple Adoration
  • 6:00pm - Stations of the Cross
  • 6:30pm - Low Mass 

Lenten Silent Retreats - Fr. Eichman and Fr. Franco will direct two half-day silent retreats during Lent.

  • Women’s Retreat – Saturday, March 17th
  • Men’s Retreat – Saturday, March 24th

Both retreats will begin at 8:00am with Adoration / Mass and will include spiritual conferences, confession, stations of the cross and time for silent prayer.  This will be a silent retreat, so leave your phones at home.  Register for either retreat by emailing the office at Contact@MaterDeiPA.com with subject line “Lenten Retreat.”  Indicate if you will be bringing a dish to share, or instead paying a registration fee of $15 per person.  The retreat is open to people 18 or older.  If any persons under 18 would like to attend contact Fr. Eichman.

Wednesday Mass—Time Change - Wednesday evening Mass has been permanently changed from 7:30pm to 7:00pm.  Thank you to all who responded to the survey last year regarding this. 

New St. Jude Devotion - Beginning this Wednesday, each 3rd Wednesday of the month we will have a special schedule as follows:

  • 6:00pm - Holy Hour with Benediction
  • 7:00pm - Low Mass with Hymns
  • Following Mass - Prayers & Litany to St. Jude & veneration of St. Jude relic.

Additional Confessions for Lent - In addition to the normal times, Confessions will be heard from 12 noon to 1pm every Tuesday and Wednesday of Lent.

Building Fund - Next Sunday will be the Building Fund collection.  This fund is used for the support and upkeep of our building needs and to help pay off the loan for the new rectory.  The current amount owed is $98,110.

Adult Convert / Confirmation Class - Our next class will be on Thursday, March 1 at 7pm.  All are welcome to attend.  Access via the alley door on Buttonwood St.

 If Not Registered with Mater Dei - The Chaplain and Assistant Chaplain have the special grace to guide those who are registered parishioners.  Anyone seeking the Sacraments of Baptism, 1st Communion, Confirmation and Matrimony here must be registered and active parishioners for 6 months.  Registration forms are available in the back of church or on our website.

Sacramentals for Expectant Mothers - There are certain Sacramentals in the Roman Ritual through which we request God’s blessing that an expecting mother can have a safe delivery and also the grace of having her child baptized.  The priests would be happy to provide the following to any expecting lady at her request.  Please do not hesitate to ask. 

  • Blessing of Expectant Mother

Can be given at any time during pregnancy.

  • Candle in Honor of St. Raymond Nonnatus

To be taken home and burned, and especially when the time of delivery approaches.

  • St. Torellus Water

Special Holy Water which can be sprinkled, used to bless oneself, drunk, or used in small amounts in cooking.

Fr. Buckley Pilgrimage - Fr. Franco is organizing a group of boys and men to join the seminarians of OLG Seminary on a pilgrimage to Washington D.C. in early June.  Pilgrims will walk 50 miles along the C & O Canal as penance for their sins and the sins of the nation. Palm Sunday

  • 8:00am Low Mass (Palms will not be available)
  • 10:00am Solemn Blessing of Palms and Procession. Solemn Mass.  (No Confessions)

Holy  Thursday

  • 7:00pm Solemn Mass (No Confessions)
  • Adoration until Midnight (Confessions during adoration)

Good Friday

  • 3:00pm Solemn Liturgy (No Confessions)
  • 7:00pm Stations of the Cross (Confessions during Stations)

Holy Saturday

  • 10:00pm Solemn Liturgy (No Confessions)

Easter Sunday

  • 8:00am Low Mass
  • 10:00am Solemn High Mass (No Confessions)

There will be the traditional Holy Thursday devotion of having adoration of the Blessed Sacrament from after Mass until Midnight.  This is the day Our Lord suffered in the Garden after the Last Supper when He asked His disciples to watch and pray with Him.  At midnight the Blessed Sacrament is removed from the church to represent Our Lord’s arrest and imprisonment.
