Fifth Sunday after Pentecost

July 9, 2017

Coffee & Donuts - Please join us for Coffee and Donuts in the Social Hall following  the 10AM Masses this morning.

Wednesday Evening Mass - We are evaluating the time of the Wednesday evening Mass.  It is currently at 7:30pm.  If you attend or would possibly begin attending this Mass please contact the office at Contact@MaterDeiPA.com to let us know of the most desirable time for you.  Options are:

  • 6:00pm
  • 6:30pm
  • 7:00pm
  • 7:30pm.

This Evening - Vespers & Adoration - Today we will have Vespers & Exposition from 5:30pm - 6:30pm.  From now on, this will take place every 2nd and 4th Sunday of the month.  As part of the Divine Liturgy, Vespers is the public prayer of the Church.  Therefore, aside from the Mass itself, participation in Vespers, when it is being prayed by a priest or deacon, is the most efficacious prayer that the faithful can offer to God.  Booklets will be available to follow along with the priests.

Rosary for the Unborn - This Saturday,  July 15, one of our priests will lead us in the Rosary in front of Hillcrest abortuary, 2709 N. Front St, Harrisburg.  For more information contact: panisangelicus46@gmail.com.  Our Youth Group will be praying with us this weekend.  Please join.

Seminary Burse - Today there will be a 2nd Collection for the FSSP Seminary in Denton, Nebraska.  Please use your special envelope for this collection.

Feast of St. Lawrence - Summer Picnic - Our summer picnic is on Sunday, August 6th, following the 10AM Mass which will be the external Solemnity of St. Lawrence.  Hamburgers/Hotdogs will be provided.  Please bring a side dish or dessert to share.  We need volunteers for set-up and for clean-up.   Many opportunities are still available (see table below).  Signup sheets for both attendance and volunteering are in the back of church.

Children Supervision - Parents with children please note: the upper floor of the school building is off limits to all except for students while attending their catechism class on that floor.  Also, while we strive to make the church a safe environment for children, we are in the midst of a busy city with transients frequently walking down the street and alleys surrounding St. Lawrence.  Do not leave your young children unsupervised, either inside the church/school building or outside.  Recently, children have been seen roaming the school building without adult supervision, and young children have been seen walking down the alley to and from the coffee social without the accompaniment of an adult (or responsible older sibling).  Direct any questions to Fr. Eichman.

Co-Op Classes & Choristers - Mater Dei will again offer Friday morning classes and will begin our Chorister program for children.  We will also have a chant course for older boys.  The first class day will be September 15. Registration will take place on July 30th. Please contact Father Eichman with any questions.

Youth Group - Saturday Morning Event - Please note: Instead of our usually meeting time, Youth Group will meet on Saturday, July 15, for the 9:00am Mass, pray a rosary for the unborn babies in front of Hillcrest and go to a nearby park for games and brunch. Please bring a friend and a food item to share. Remember: RSVP to YouthGroup@MaterDeiPA.com

Please Write Your Name In Your Missal - Please write your name in your hand missal.  One or more missals are lost or misplaced on nearly a weekly basis.

Online Giving Now Available - You can now donate to Mater Dei online.  Go to our homepage at MaterDeiPA.com and click on “Donate” or scan the QR Code below.  This is a very  easy and convenient way to make your weekly contributions.  You can make one time gifts or set up recurring gifts.  Please consider taking advantage of this way of giving during any weekends you may be away if you plan to travel this summer.

Homebound Parishioners - If you are homebound or know a parishioner who is and would like to be visited on occasion, please consider contacting the Holy Name Society.  As a part of their work for Mater Dei, members visit shut-ins and would gladly visit and pray with any homebound parishioner.  Contact Anthony DiSanto at disantoa@mac.com
