Men & Women Sought for Mixed Choir

Sung Masses will begin again on September 10, and Music Director Patrick Torsell is forming a mixed choir to complement the schola.

The mixed choir is open to men and women of the parish interested in applying their voices for the Glory of God, and provides a rich opportunity to engage socially with like-minded Catholics. Formal musical training is not required to sing with the choir; but the ability to match pitch is necessary, and reading music (or a keen capacity to follow the notes and learn by ear) is required.

As the choir develops, it is hoped that the repertoire will grow to include many of the beautiful polyphonic works of the great composers such as Victoria, Palestrina, des Prez, Tallis, and many others.

The men’s schola is responsible for chanting the Propers of the Mass, while the mixed choir will sing processional hymns, the Ordinary of the Mass, along with chants and polyphonic works for Offertory and Communion. The schola and choir will rehearse together once during the week (day TBD), plus a warmup and run-through before each Sung Mass. The first rehearsal will be the week of August 28.

If you are interested in joining the choir and/or schola, or if you have any questions, please contact Patrick Torsell at Music@MaterDeiPA.com right away so that the ideal rehearsal day for the group can be determined.
