Eighteenth Sunday after Pentecost

September 18, 2016

Coffee and Donuts - All guests from other parishes are welcome to join us after the 10AM Mass for coffee and donuts.

Friday Evening Mass Time - Our Friday evening schedule has been changed to:

  • 5:30 - Simple Adoration
  • 6:30 - Mass

1st Day of Catechism - Catechism classes are today, 9:10AM - 9:45AM.  Students are to meet in the social hall by 9:05AM.  From there, the students will be lead to their classroom.

Vocation from Mater Dei - We have one young man from our community, James Kuniega, who has just entered our FSSP seminary in Nebraska.  Please keep him in your prayers, and pray also for the others in our parish discerning a vocation.

Seminary Burse - Beginning in October, we will have a second collection on the 2nd Sunday of each month for the FSSP seminarians in Nebraska.  These funds will help pay for the tuition for the seminarian from our community at Our Lady of Guadalupe Seminary in Denton, Nebraska.  It costs the FSSP about $25,000 per year for each seminarian.  Of this amount, the seminarians are asked to raise $7,000 per year.  Our hope is that this burse will cover this for our seminarian.

Please Dress Modestly - As we are still in the warmer months of the year, it is a good time for a reminder on modest attire.  While at the church, please dress modestly.  For both men and women:

  • Pants and skirts are long enough that the knees are covered when sitting.
  • The shoulders are covered.
  • No plunging necklines.
  • Clothing is not tight. Clothing is to conceal, not reveal.

These are the rules for dressing at St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome.  Please follow them when at St. Lawrence.  Remember that we dress at church not for our own comfort, but to present ourselves to Our Lord. Finally: Please do not correct anyone on their attire.  If you do not approve of someone’s attire, please speak to a priest about it and he will approach the person if necessary.

Hand Missals For Sale - 1962 Daily Hand Missals are available for purchase in the church office for $60.  We offer the Missal published in 2008 by Baronius Press in association with the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter.

Meals for the Homeless - In the back of the church are listings of where daily meals are served for the homeless.  Note that those in need can find three meals every day within the area.  Please feel free to take one of these listings to keep in your car or to take home with you.

Directive on how to help a needy person when approached in the vicinity of St. Lawrence:

  • What not to do: Do not offer them monetary assistance or help with transportation. Unfortunately this makes you an enabler.
  • What to do: Direct the person to Fr. Eichman. Most of these people are regulars who he will already know.

Food for Needy  - In the basket behind the last pew, the Holy Name Society collects non-perishable food for the Silence of Mary homes.  Our weekly contribution makes a real difference for those living in these homes. If you are looking for a way to help the hungry, please consider giving in this way.

Adult Convert / Confirmation Class - This Tuesday, September 20, is our first Convert / Adult Confirmation class taught by Fr. Eichman.  This class will be held Tuesday evenings at 7pm in a classroom behind the Church. Enter via side alley door.  Direct questions to MaterDeiChaplain@gmail.com

FSSP 2017 Calendars - The 2017 FSSP Calendars will be made available soon.  Last year we ran out of Calendars.  To ensure that we have enough this year, if you would like to purchase multiple calendars please let us know how many you would like.  These calendars, at $15 each, make a good gift, and each one purchased through Mater Dei will directly benefit our Community.
