St Francis de Sales

“To love our neighbor in charity is to love God in man.”

“When charity requires it we must freely and mildy communicate to our neighbor not only what is his instruction, but also what is profitable for his consolation.”

“Examine your heart often to see if it is such toward your neighbor as you would like his to be toward you were you in his place. This is the touchstone of true reason.”

“Some are tormented searching for the way to love God. These poor souls do not know there is no method to love Him apart from doing what pleases Him.”

“If, when stung by slander or ill-nature, we wax proud and swell with anger, it is a proof that our gentleness and humility are unreal, and mere artificial show.”
