1st Sunday of Advent

December 2, 2018

Feast of Immaculate Conception & Ordination to Diaconate -  Next Saturday is a Holy Day of Obligation.  It is also the ordination day of Br. Thomas Mary of Jesus to the Diaconate by Bishop Gainer.  Brother Thomas’ young community is dedicated to offering Mass and the Sacraments in the Extraordinary Form and following the primitive Carmelite Rule of St. Albert of Jerusalem.

Attendance at Brother’s ordination Mass is an appropriate way to show our gratitude to Bishop Gainer for the support which he continues to give to Mater Dei.  It is also a sign of gratitude to him for his strong support for what we at Mater Dei cherish, the continuing growth of the Mass and Sacraments in the Extraordinary form throughout his entire diocese.

Please come to the December 8th 9AM Mass as a sign of gratitude to Bishop Gainer and to pray for Brother Thomas Mary of Jesus on this important day for him and the Church.

December 8th Schedule:

7:00am-Low Mass

9:00am-Solemn Ponitifical High Mass with Ordianation to the Diaconate

Reception Following Ordination—RSVP - The Brothers will host a reception in the Social Hall following next Sunday’s ordination.  All are invited to attend.  If you plan to attend please sign up on the sheet in the back of the church.

Coffee & Donuts - We will have coffee & donuts in the downstairs Social Hall following both the 8am & 10am Mass this morning.  All are welcome to join us.  Access the side door on Buttonwood.

Workshop—Edmund Campion Hymnals - For those interested in learning more about how to use the new Hymnals we will have a brief workshop following both Masses today.  The  workshop following the 8AM Mass will be in the Social Hall, and the one following the 10AM Mass in Classroom #1.  Please bring a hymnal from the pew, and return it after the workshop.

Candlelight Rorate Mass - Saturday, December 15, we will have a special 6:00am Sung Mass. This Rorate Mass is lit only by candlelight. Because it is a votive Mass in Mary’s honor, white vestments are worn instead of Advent violet. In the dimly lit setting, we will prepare to honor the Light of the world, Who is soon to be born, and offer praise to God for the gift of Our Lady. As the Mass proceeds and sunrise approaches, the church becomes progressively brighter, illumined by the sun as our Faith is illumined by Christ.  Rising early on a Saturday to attend would be an excellent sacrifice to make during the season of Advent.

1st Celebration of Las Posadas - Please join us on Friday, December 21st at 11:30am for a Posada (a tradition brought to Mexico by the Missionaries in the 1500’s remembering the events which took place before the Nativity).  This will include a Rosary and a "journey while singing" during which the children will reenacting St. Joseph and our Blessed Mother’s search for an Inn in Bethlehem.  Following this there will be food and drinks along with the traditional “Ponche,” a Mexican hot fruit tea during a violin & piano performance.  Please bring a meatless dish to share with everyone and invite family and friends.  Especially seniors are encouraged to join in this spiritually oriented celebration as we prepare for Christmas.
